The
UCHS Empty Bowls SoupFest was a hit with local chefs preparing delicious soups
in a competition to have their creation named soup of the day.
The
competition was fierce and once all of the votes were counted, the Thai Indian
Butternut Squash soup by Saucy Soup was declared the winner. The runner up was the
Cream of Mushroom soup by Paul M’Keown from the Mountainview Residence and
Terrace. Tied for third were the Acorn Squash and Sweet Potato soup from Judy’s
Restaurant and the Wild Mushroom Bisque from David’s Restaurant.
Other
generous participants included Bistro
Riviere, Carver’s Block, Bob’s Grillhouse, The Pantry Shelf, Tintagels Tea Room
and What’s Cookin’.
If you didn’t get a chance to sample the winning soup, Saucy Soup (20 Shamrock Road, Erin) will feature its winning Thai Indian Butternut Squash soup on its lunch menu every Wednesday through the winter.
Thank you to all of the chefs for sharing their wonderful soups and making our first SoupFest such a success. Our thanks also go out to Holtom’s Bakery for donating bread for the event and to Marc’s Valu-Mart and Hillsburgh Foodland for their generous donations.
